New York Giants Eli Manning is a very accomplished quarterback in the NFL but is still playing and competing in the shadow of his older brother, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning. Peyton has the stats to back up his greatness, while Eli has a couple Super Bowl rings to lead the family legacy. Eli expects this season to rival that of his brother's greatness, by putting up his best statistical year ever, with having a full season of his offensive weapons and himself healthy once again.
Manning explained to Giants that he feels he has got more of a grasp on the offensive coordinator's game plan and will be better able to perform from having another offseason of workouts under the second year coordinator:
"This year, I understand the concepts. I'm still working on it, but I'm concentrating on the footwork and the mechanics and the timing of everything. It was great to have that this year and kind of get back to the basics of everything. I feel comfortable, I feel real good right now."
Manning had control issues in the past with giving up too many interceptions, but he has taken hold of the mistakes and become more consistent. Interceptions on the decrease and weapons across the field are making Manning a believer in this season. Eli tells the New York Post his aspirations for the new season:
"Yeah, single-digit interceptions, and 4-1 ratio touchdown/interception. Hey, it's wins, it's getting to the playoffs, that's the real goal. It's important to have goals if you think those things lead to more wins and to better play and to more points, and that's what you're trying to do, but it's really about winning games and playing well down the stretch and in the clutch, and having those Ws."
Do you think this is going to be Eli Manning's best season ever statistically? Will it translate into another championship? If so, does he start to surpass his brother's legacy? We want to hear from you. Tell us your thoughts below.
