There has been a major update in Paula Deen’s racial slur scandal. The federal judge has dismissed claims that the plaintiff experienced racial discrimination at the hands of Deen. The judge did not; however, dismiss the case against Deen’s brother, Bubba Hiers. Mr. Hiers is still facing claims of sexual harassment.
On Monday, it was revealed that U.S. District Judge William T. Moore threw out the lawsuit of Lisa Jackson, a disgruntled former employee...or, at least part of it.
Jackson was suing Deen, specifically, for racial discrimination. Judge Moore ruled that:
“At best, plaintiff is an accidental victim of the alleged racial discrimination. There are no allegations that defendant racially offensive comments were either directed toward plaintiff or made with the intent to harass her.”
Needless to say, Deen’s camp was overjoyed with this decision. Paula’s representative released the following statement to CNN:
"We are pleased with the Court's ruling today that Lisa Jackson's claims of race discrimination have been dismissed. As Ms. Deen has stated before, she is confident that those who truly know how she lives her life know that she believes in equal opportunity, kindness and fairness for everyone."
Unfortunately, Deen’s brother, Bubba Hiers, isn’t so lucky. Ms. Jackson is suing Bubba for sexual harassment, claiming that he made her feel uncomfortable on "an almost daily basis."
Of course, all this may prove too little, too late for the embattled celebrity chef. Deen has, seemingly, lost everything.
Before these allegations were made public, Deen was overseeing a cooking empire. Not only did she have deals with ham companies, retailers like Wal-Mart, butter, a hit TV show...but she also had a five book deal...all of which were canceled.
