Kelly Peterson, wife of the late jazz legend Oscar Peterson has announced a new project that will honor her late husband. The new release, Oscar, With Love, will feature new compositions by the heavyweight performed by a star-studded line up and much more.
Having delved into the archives of Peterson's past, Kelly has unearthed some new pieces that have never been performed before. Perhaps a disc that will venture back in time, there's a laundry list of talent that will perform songs from Oscar's canon that haven't seen the light of day.
Per Jazz FM, Kelly states:
"It's primarily a solo piano recording. There are some tracks that will feature Dave Young - who was Oscar's bassist and dear friend for years. It is meant to showcase Oscar as a composer. I think some people aren't aware of how much music he actually wrote ... I wanted to share that with everyone."
She continues, "This will be the world premiere for some new Oscar Peterson music."
The lineup of performers and participating artists are Chick Corea, Monty Alexander, Ramsey Lewis, Kenny Barron, Benny Green, Oliver Jones, Makoto Ozone, Renee Rosnes and Bill Charlap.
Corea wrote and performed a new composition called "One for Oscar" specifically for the project as well.
The new recording is set to release on Kelly's independent label, Two Lions Records, in December and is to celebrate Oscar's 90th birthday, which would have been on August 15.
