Walmart has officially settled the lawsuit that followed as result of the June 2014 tractor trailer truck crash that injured Tracy Morgan and his friends, killing writer James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. Now, The former 30 Rock star is opening up for the first time since the accident, telling Today’s Matt Lauer about the emotional toll that the crash took on him and the support that he received after.
Early Monday on The Today Show, Tracy Morgan spoke out for the first time publicly since the tragic accident last year, telling Matt Lauer:
"I can't believe I'm here. I can't believe I'm in front of you. I can't believe I'm just here, and just seeing the tragedy that happened. It touches me."
Morgan detailed the emotional toll of the accident, telling Lauer:
"I've been down. I have my family, my wife Meghan, We are about to be married, and my daughter & my son, So they keep my spirits up," Morgan said speaking about the support he has received. “Tina Fey and all these people call me helped me get my spirits up,” Morgan added.
Morgan also opened up about his good friend James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, who tragically passed away in the crash:
“I mean the case is settled but the pain is going to always be there for Jimmy Mack. He was a close friend of mine, a comrade in comedy. He was a loving man, and he was a warm man.,” Tracy said, as he broke out into tears. “He was a good man. It's just hard for me to see that he's gone."
