Internet rumors are swirling that the rapper, 50 Cent, was arrested today. This is untrue, however, the mogul did have to appear in court today. The “In da Club” singer is facing charges for both domestic violence and vandalism.
The charges were filed by Daphne Narvarez, Mr. Cent’s ex-girlfriend, with whom he also has a child. The pair were a couple for three years but have since split.
Curtis Jackson (Cent’s real name) is accused of doing some pretty bad things. On June 23, Daphne is claiming that Curtis destroyed over $7,000 worth of property in her California condo.
Additionally, she says that Jackson broke through her bedroom door and began violently kicking her.
Jackson, of course, denies all of these charges and, earlier today, entered a plea of not guilty. Despite his plea, the judge has ordered 50 to stay away from his ex-girlfriend and not to communicate with her in person or via technology like email.
Mr. Cent was also barred from owning or possessing a firearm.
If convicted of these crimes, Jackson could serve five years in prison and would have to pay the plaintiff over $40,000.
A pretrial hearing has been set for September 4, where Mr. Jackson will be allowed to give his side of the story.
While information is not known about his defense strategy, a safe bet might be that Jackson will try and paint Daphne as a gold digger and liar. He is, after all, worth over $100 million dollars and has released a string of successful albums.
