Jaden Smith Cast As ‘Static Shock’ After White Batman Prom Costume: Deadshot’s Son Joining DC?

Jaden Smith might be joining the family business once again. The After Earth actor is rumored to be cast as Static Shock, in an upcoming live-action webseries based on the classic DC Comics/ Milestone character. Jaden’s father Will Smith, was recently cast as Deadshot in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and his mother Jada Pinkett Smith took Gotham by storm as Fish Mooney in the hit Fox series. Jaden himself has frequently donned an all white Batman suit, including at a recent prom appearance.

Recently, The Walking Dead’s Tyler James Williams Flicks And The City about the lack of young black superheros, when he brought up the Static Shock live-action web series, seemingly confirming the rumor that Jaden Smith will play the lead. (via Comicbook.com):

“It's great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden."

Earlier in the year, producer, Reginald Hudlin spoke with Comic Book Resources about the upcoming Static Shock series:

“It's literally the most exciting thing I'm working on right now. It feels like some sort of weird summation of everything. Everyone who hears about it, they're like, ‘That's the thing.’

“It's weird, because so much of it comes from what Static is as a concept. It's amazing, because Static as an idea is more timely than ever. Part of it is just how history moves. But in terms of social relevance and who he is and what he represents, it's perfect.“

Hudlin went on to discuss when we might be seeing the new series, adding:

“It's a project that's very much on the fast track. I don't have a timetable for you, I don't have any real details about it, but it's moving very quickly, and literally everyone who's in the room loses their mind.”
