A-Rod Suspended for Anti-Aging Drug Ties, MLB Tells Yankees Alex Rodriguez Can’t Play [UPDATE]

A-Rod has officially been suspended by the MLB. On Monday, the organization told The Yankees that Alex Rodriguez would not be allowed to play in the upcoming game. The association is penalizing the player who has been tied to anti-aging clinic which administered drugs to a number of players.

A-Rod was the one holdout who refused to accept the 50-game penalty from the MLB. Fourteen players were initially investigated and, of those, 12 have already accepted the verdict. That list includes “Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli and outfielder Fernando Martinez; Philadelphia pitcher Antonio Bastardo; Seattle catcher Jesus Montero; New York Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin and outfielder Cesar Puello; Houston pitcher Sergio Escalona; San Diego pitcher Fautino De Los Santos; and free agent pitcher Jordan Norberto,” according to the Associated Press.

The news organization went on to claim that:

“MLB informed the Yankees on Sunday that Rodriguez will be suspended for his links to the Biogenesis of America clinic, which was accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs, a person familiar with that decision said. That person also spoke on condition of anonymity because no statement was authorized. The Yankees weren't told the exact length of the suspension, though they were under the impression it will be through the 2014 season, the person said.”

If A-Rod is prevented from playing the 50 games, as numerous outlets have suggested, he could face a huge paycut. According to reports, Alex will forfeit nearly $35 million dollars. Of that sum, $25 million will come from the 2014 playing season.
