Television network Fox recently talked about the tragic death of Cory Monteith, AKA Finn Hudson. The hit show ‘Glee’ will be taking on his struggle with drugs and alcohol in an upcoming episode that will also see Finn Hudson suffer the same fate--an OD.
Fox isn't planning on pussyfooting around the cause of Cory Monteith's death. Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly announced on Thursday that the Glee star and his on-screen counterpart Finn Hudson will share the same fate.
Reilly told the Television Critics Association panel Thursday that the network plans to, "deal directly with the incidents involved in Cory's passing and the drug abuse in particular."
Monteith, a fixture on the show since the very beginning, tragically passed away on July 13 from a mixture of alcohol and herion. The 31-year-old had long suffered with addiction.
The show's not going to sugar coat his substance abuse. Instead the actors will film in-character public service announcements. Reilly also told the panel that:
"They're going to speak directly to the audience and I think they're going to be very impactful. You see some people struggling with addiction and it's clear. Cory was a big, open, wonderful life force. He was not a problem. He didn't look like [a drug addict]. He looked straight as an arrow."
The chairman continued to say:
"He was very open about [drug addiction] in his past; not as open about it in the present...Everybody was ultimately shocked because it was an accident that happened to somebody struggling with an addiction."
Monteith/Hudsons’ death will be delt with in the third episode of the new season. Proceeds from the episode’s music sales will be placed in a fund in the actor’s name, that will presumably combat or raise awareness of addiction.
The musical comedy returns to Fox's fall lineup in late September.
