The Transformers universe is getting bigger and bigger. Not only are still awaiting Transformers 5, rumored to be released in 2017, but a super team of writers are being assembled for the newly announced shared universe. Walking Dead writer/creator Robert Kirkman is joining the team, alongside writers from Iron Man, X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Pacific Rim, and Lost.
Deadline is reporting that Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman has signed on to the new expanded Transformers franchise. Joining Kirkman in the shared universe are Iron Man writers, Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Lost vet Jeff Pinkner., Pacific Rim, X-Men: Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk and Avengers story writer Zak Penn.
One of the many possible options for expansion are a crossover with G.I.Joe.
G.I. Joe and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke to Cinemablend back in 2013 about the possibility of a crossover film, stating (via Screen Rant):
I guess it’s possible. I don’t know. I think I probably at this moment, I resist it. I don’t know necessarily why, but I just think there’s so much that’s so rich in the mythologies that I don’t think they need to draw from the other.”
“It’s not to say you couldn’t do it well, but both these properties have such rich mythologies with so many characters, that you could go a lot of movies before you start running out of ideas of what to do. But it’s not to say, if we found the right… I’d hate to set out to do that, but if I heard a story where we went, ‘Oh my God…,’ I could see a story right now about machination, machination of war and that could lead you sort of intrinsically to a Transformer.”
