WWE wrestler Randy Orton got his balls busted by a fan. The third-generation superstar took a surprise nut shot to the family jewels Tuesday night at a house show in South Africa. The fan was arrested and the video was published online. Check the vid after our update.
During the match, a wannabe wrestler jumped over the guardrail and hit the former champ below the belt. Orton attempted to defend himself after the attack, kicking the assailant in the head as officials were having him pulled from the ring.
The attacker was probably lucky he got arrested when he did. Wrestlers often use brutal force when unwelcome guests invite themselves into the ring...and with good reason.
The squared-circle might sometimes look like an ‘anything goes’ war zone, but it's actually a very dangerous dance floor that is carefully choreographed to look like chaos. The performers put their bodies at risk of serious injury or even death every time they step through those ropes.
Each wrestler must trust one another to maintain a certain level of safety amongst the violence. Any unplanned presence in the ring threatens the delicate balance of the sport and puts everyone involved at risk.
There are also the rare fanatics who can't tell the difference between entertainment and reality. Legendary heel (bad guy), Ole Anderson, was stabbed at ringside in 1976 by an overzealous member of the audience. Roddy Piper also suffered a similar stabbing in 1982.
While the world of wrestling may be known for it's over the top theatrics and it's fair share of staged sneak attacks, the WWE has publicly stated that the incident was not planned, telling the press:
"Tonight Randy Orton was violently attacked from behind by a South African fan, who is currently being held in jail pending criminal charges. The extent of Orton's injuries are unknown at this time."
The whole incident was captured on video by fans and put on YouTube. The attackers motives are still unknown at the time but one thing's for sure, you have to be either just plain nuts or have a whole lot of balls to try and low blow a professional wrestler.
