Prince George Alexander Louis, the new royal baby, will have one heck of a christening. And how could he not, with Princess Kate, Prince William and even the Queen helping to plan his baptism fashion. We’ve got an update on the family ceremony that will take place later in the year.
The most recent news surrounding Prince George is what the young royal will be wearing. Up until the little prince, every royal for the past 172 years has worn the same christening gown.
Things will be different for Prince George as he will be wearing a brand new gown...sort of. The new gown will be an exact replica of the one first created in 1841.
Since its creation, the gown has been worn by over 30 newborns, including George’s pops, Prince William, and his great-grandmother, the queen.
Back in 2004, however, the article was deemed too fragile to use. That’s when the Queen commissioned a replica of the clothing.
To understand what we might expect from the ceremony, one must turn to history. The Examiner offered further insight into the ceremony:
“Prince George’s godparents, most likely Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry, will stand with the new parents at the font and promise to raise HRH, Prince George Alexander Louis to follow Christ. Prince George's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, the Supreme Governor, will look on.
The month-old prince will be serenaded with hymns by 16 choristers from the Chapel Royal. The future monarch of England will be dressed in the original lace and silk christening robe first worn in 1841 by Queen Victoria’s son, the future King Edward VII. At the reception following the third in line to the British throne’s baptism, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will serve the top tier from their April 2011 wedding cake.”
