A swarm of killer bees attacked and killed two horses on Saturday. A couple, who were on the horses at the time of the attack, were also stung over 200 times. The swarm of 30,000 bees first appeared in Texas.
Kristen Beauregard, a 44-year-old resident of North Texas, was out exercising two of her miniature horses with her boyfriend, when she received the fright of her life.
As she was training Trump, their Shetland pony, he began kicking and jumping erratically. That’s when the slaughter occurred. Kristen described the scene:
"They were chasing us down, they were following us. We swept up piles and piles of them...it was like a bad movie. It got all dark, like it was night time there were so many bees. We were trying stand up in the water but every time we stuck our heads out for air, they would cover us and start stinging us. We were trying to breathe and they were stinging us in the face and in the nose."
Kristen somehow managed to escape the swarm and run to the house. The bees would not relent and followed her there, slamming into the windows and door. Kristen’s boyfriend was able to use his cell phone to call 911.
A special team of firefighters had to be dispensed to handle the situation. They were outfitted in specially designed suits and armed with a foam spray that would repel the insects.
Kristen and her boyfriend were able to survive. The horses, unfortunately, were not so lucky. One died immediately and the other was put down at a local veterinary office.
Tests are currently being conducted to see if the bees were “Africanized.”
