OJ Simpson, the alleged murderer of Nicole Simpson, asks the court for mercy yet again. This time he is seeking parole and a reduced prison sentence for his Las Vegas robbery, kidnapping and burglary scheme.
Simpson was last convicted and sentenced back in 2008. The charges stem from a 2007 robbery. Simpson, who was armed, and a group of men busted into a Las Vegas hotel and stole thousands of dollars worth of OJ memorabilia.
Simpson claimed that the memorabilia was illegally obtained and rightfully his. The court felt otherwise and sentenced the former pro-footballer to 33 years in prison.
Simpson has petitioned the Nevada Parole Board to release him for good behavior, stating that:
“The difference between all of their crimes and mine is, they were trying to steal other people's property. They were trying to steal other people's money. My crime was trying to retrieve for my family my own property. Make no mistake I would give it all back to these guys. They can have it all to get these five years of my life back."
Due to Mr. Simpson’s past behavior, it may seem unlikely that he would be allowed a commuted sentence, however, Simpson’s attorney does seem to acknowledge OJ for possessing good behavior, telling reporters, "He's been a model inmate, so we don't expect him to have any problems making parole."
The parole board, however, feels differently. They say that the earliest he could possibly be released is in 2017.
