Taylor Swift has canceled a tour date after an old creep won an online contest. 4Chan, an online community known both for hacktivism and harmless pranks, punked the young singer by making an unlikely contestant the winner. Their online prank caused the contest to be canceled by the hit song maker.
Don’t worry...the only person who is going to miss out on Tay-Tay doesn’t even really exist. To promote an upcoming Taylor Swift concert, a radio station thought they would host an online contest with the chance for one lucky fan to meet their idol.
KISS 108 FM didn’t count on 4Chan stepping in. The online community created a fake online account for a man named ‘Charles Z.’ Mr. Z’s online profile read simply that he was a “creepy 39-year-old [who] would like to crush all those little girls’ dreams.”
Naturally, the majority of contestants were teenage and pre-teen girls. When the radiostation realized they had been pranked, they canceled the competition entirely. They issued the following statement:
“Disappointingly, we have determined that the integrity of the Taylor Swift’s Biggest Fan contest has been compromised. In accordance with our contest rules, effective immediately, the contest has been terminated. We apologize to all of our loyal listeners who have participated.”
For some reason, poor Tay-Tay is no stranger to online pranking. Earlier in the year, the pop-country star was victim to yet another hoax. When she was hosting a competition that would allow her to perform for free at a high school, the interwebs chose to send her to an all deaf school.
