Sega Manufactures 'Grand Pianist,' World's Smallest Baby Piano

It's not uncommon for musical instruments of the day to take on a new aesthetic almost devoid of functionality. The manufacturers at Sega, though, have coined the world's smallest grand piano clocking in at an astonishing 9.8 inches.

Giving new meaning to the name "baby grand," "Grand Pianist" features 88 tiny keys that you can (barely) play by yourself. It also includes an SD port and several pre-recorded songs that pour out of a small speaker.

According to Japan Trend Shop: "The Sega "Grand Pianist" is an amazing work of technological and musical art. Despite being only 4mm wide, each key works just as on a real piano, delivering natural sound through the speaker. It comes with 100 built-in songs (expandable with an SD card to play many more), and for every song the keys actually move and play the song! It's like a miniature player piano! The Grand Pianist Special Set has even more, including more albums and an external speaker."

Not unlike the invention of the electric guitar, or maybe even the electric violin, this new toy could be a staple of the changing tide of instruments--kind of like the Seaboard.

Judge for yourself, though, and check out the smallest piano in the world below (and try to pick one up if possible).
