Six Flags Texas Giant Roller Coaster Death and Cedar Point Shoot the Rapids Water Ride Accident [UPDATE]

It has been a terrible week for amusement parks. First, there was the Six Flags death after a woman fell from their Texas Giant roller coaster. Now, seven people have been injured on the Shoot the Rapids water ride at Cedar Point.

The latest incident occurred at the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio. Seven thrillseekers got more than they bargained for when boarding the Shoot the Rapids attraction.

Witnesses told the press that the injuries were resulted when the raft, which is large enough to carry ten passengers, capsized. The raft overturned after it rolled backwards downhill.

State inspectors have closed the ride until a proper examination can be conducted. After injuries have been sustained as the result of a ride, the cause of the malfunction must be determined before the ride can reopen.

Matthew Orr, a 26-year-old native of Euclid, Ohio, saw the whole thing. He even assisted the injured park-goers, as he tells an Ohio based newspaper:

"One of the cars...came down off that hill, and people were still in it. They were trapped. We jumped in and helped them get out. If we didn't help, I don't even know what would have happened. It took nine or 10 people to pull the car up."

Cedar Point’s official website offers the following description of the water ride:

“It takes you up and splashes you down. Then it takes you up again and, well, the rest is a surprise. Shoot the rapids feels like a real wild river adventure with canyons, a tunnel and something unexpected around every corner!”

This latest mishap comes only days after the tragic loss of life Six Flags experienced.
