Carly Rae Jepsen, the Canadian singer who is responsible for “Call Me Maybe,” won't be getting any calls from the Tampa Bay Rays. After a terrible first pitch, the team laughed off the efforts of the young pop star. You have to watch the video for yourself.
The 27-year-old pop singer did not do well. Not only did she throw the ball far, far left...but it rolled the entire distance to the plate (well...if the plate was nine feet to the left). The disastrous first pitch occurred on Sunday and was captured by MLB.com for the world to see.
To her credit, Jepsen was able to laugh off the terrible first pitch--something Gary Del’Abate from The Howard Stern Show was incapable of doing. His pitch, which actually went further, curved and hit an umpire in the head. And, until Sunday’s pitch by Carly, was widely considered to be the worst pitch in baseball history.
Immediately after her pitch, Carly was comforted by the catcher of the Rays. He rushed the mound and embraced Ms. Jepsen following the booing crowd.
This wasn’t going to keep Carly down. After rolling the ball to nearly first base, she signed autographs for fans and posed for pictures.
Carly, who is currently dating fellow musician, Matthew Koma, was such a good sport about the incident, that she posted a collage of the terrible pitch and wrote that:
“A before and after. Me taking the mound. Me knocking the camera out of the photographers hands with the baseball. And me getting a sympathy hug from the catcher. Omg.”
What a great sport!
