Tonight NBC’s Undateable, featuring canceled Good Luck Charlie star Bridgit Mendler and comedian Chris D’Elia, is all new. It was recently announced that the show will have a special live episode complete with music. Now, Executive Producer and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence is opening up about the upcoming episode.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Undatable, titled “A Stray Dog Walks Into a Bar,” reads:
“Danny and Justin deal with their eccentric neighbor, and Justin discovers Danny has been taking advantage of him. Meanwhile, Candace sets out to keep a stray puppy she found outside the bar.”
Like 30 Rock did before it, Undateable is planning a live episode, complete with music. Recently, Executive Producer Bill Lawrence opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the new live show:
“Everything with Undateable starts with the fact that [showrunner] Adam [Sztykiel] and I like the show, we think the performers are funny, and we’d do anything to give the show a shot.
“We saw how much success NBC was having, specifically with live programming. [NBC Chairman] Bob Greenblatt called up and asked if we’d do an hour-long live sitcom, an episode for both coasts. And we foolishly said yes, until we realized what an over-the-top nightmare this could possibly be. But I think it’ll be fun.”
