On Wednesday, Alvaro Domingo--son of tenor, baritone, conductor and 72-year-old L.A. Opera adminstrator Placido Domingo--said that after spending a few "quiet nights" in a Madrid hospital room, his father "feels much better."
Alvaro also said that Placido is "embarrassed" and "devastated" by not being able to continue his professional activities for the moment, as doctors have recommended a convalescence of at least three to four weeks. Domingo the Elder is hoping to be fit enough for an August date in Salzburg, but neither family nor publicity team has confirmed his desire.
Speaking further on his father's commitment to work, Alvaro turned a little more light-hearted. "We have to tie him to the bed because he would be back on stage as soon as possible," joked Placido's son.
As Classicalite reported on Monday, Placido Domingo suffered a "pulmonary embolism" as a result from "venous thromboembolic disease." (That is, there was a blockage in an artery of his lungs, caused by a blood clot.)
And just as our anatomy jargon needed a refresher course then, so, too, did our Spanish language skills before reporting this update.
All the same, Classicalite está bastante seguro de lo hicimos bien.
How do you think we did, though, dear readers? Listen, yourself, to all four minutes of Alvaro Domingo's interview with RTVE here.
