With temperatures in Gotham closing in on triple digits this week, last Thursday, the New York chapter of Opera on Tap retreated to much cooler climes--apropos, the backroom of Freddy's Bar in Brooklyn.
And while their 2013 residency there has runneth o'er with all kinds of fun and interesting programming (drinks not included), that muggy evening's theme--"It's Too Darn Hot"--proved particularly apt.
Aided by Christopher Berg's synthesized accompaniment, Classicalite's favorite performances included Fairy Queen Tytania's aria, "Be kind and courteous to this gentleman," from Act II of Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Op. 64.
And, of course, that well-trod tune from Carmen...ad hoc chorus included.
Opera on Tap's next "New Brew" program will take place on Friday, August 2 at their other Park Slope home--just a little further up Fifth Avenue at Barbès.
Stay thirsty, for opera, my friend.
