Lauryn Hill, the former Fugees member, is known for her amazing lyrics and music. Today, however, fans may better remember her for serving a three month prison sentence. Like most stars before her, she had difficulty in paying her taxes.
Lauryn was furious over the charges and subsequent sentencing. On her Tumblr page, the star went on a rampage concluding:
"I shuddered during sentencing when I kept hearing the term 'make the IRS whole' ... make the IRS whole, knowing that I got into these very circumstances having to deal with the very energies of inequity and resistance that created and perpetuated these savage inequalities. The entire time, I thought, who has made black people whole?!"
The celebrity failed to pay taxes on two million dollars that she earned between 2005 and 2007. This might prove exceptionally difficult for the former rapper who hasn’t released an album since 2002’s MTV Unplugged No. 2.0.
But...more than her solo career...the star will probably be known from her teenage days with the group, The Fugees. But, Hill is hoping to distance herself further from those days, by releasing a new solo album. She has already dropped one single off the album, entitled “"Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)."
Sony will be releasing the album.
If you’re wondering what Hill’s prison stay will be like, then look no further. USA Today outlined her prison experience today:
“Hill reported to federal prison in Danbury, said Ed Ross, a spokesman for the federal Bureau of Prisons. Inmates at the minimum security prison live in open dormitory-style living quarters and are expected to work jobs such as maintenance, food service or landscaping.”
