After being made aware of just how quickly the world of internet crime is evolving since being cast on CBS' new spin-off TV series, CSI: Cyber, both Patricia Arquette and James Van Der Beek have had their minds blown by the realization of what dangers really lay out there. According to the 2015 Boyhood Oscar winner, the show's writers use their technological expertise to show you what is happening in the seedier realms of cyberspace, and you would do well to pay close attention to learn how to better to protect yourself.
Patricia Arquette may be all about fighting to get women equal pay for equal work in Hollywood right now, but she seems equally concerned at times with the rapid advancement of cyber-crime in modern society.
The 2015 Oscar winner told People the reading the script for CSI: Cyber practically sent her into a panic attack imagining all the ways she and her family might be susceptible to harm:
"We've known crime for a long time, but we haven't known crime like this, and the truth is we have this technology incredibly enmeshed in our lives now.
"Crime has moved so much into this world of technology...This show is looking at the world of technology in a way no show ever has.
"When I read the material as a regular person with a few devices, I was like, 'Are you serious? That's capable of that? People are really doing that?'"
Speaking to the Daily Beast -- James Van Der Beek explained that most frightening was how on the nose the writers cutting edge research and predictions are.
According to Van Der Beek, it you see something on the show that was on the news at some point, it's probably safe to say that they dreamed the scheme up in the writers' room first:
"The technical adviser, who actually works with the FBI, will give the writers material...And the writers will write something -- then in between writing and airing, that thing will actually happen.
"People are going to say 'ripped from the headlines'; the writers are gonna angrily say, 'It wasn't ripped from the headlines, we came up with it before they did!'"
If that is even close to the truth you may want to check out CSI: Cyber Wednesday nights on CBS just to make sure you password protection is up to date.
