Football is considered by many to be America's true pastime, and the people of Ohio are some of the sport's most adamant and resilient fans. In recent news, newly established Ohio legend Cardale Jones has decided to forgo the NFL Draft for another year as a Buckeye. This has made analysts think of Johnny Manziel and which Ohio footballer will have a more significant impact on the sport's overall presence in the state.
Before his time at Ohio State, Jones played for Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio. During that time, Rivals.com had him ranked as a three-star recruit. In turn, he joined the Buckeyes charter in October of 2011.
Since then, Cardale has climbed the ranks over multiple star-studded quarterbacks, and now, in many ways, he serves as the state's hero. Moreover, according to Cleveland.com, Buckeyes fans will get to keep their knight in shining armor for another season:
"Shortly after unexpectedly leading Ohio State to a national title, Cardale Jones had a press conference at Glenville to announce whether he'd return to college or go to the NFL...Some thought his idea to remain a Buckeye was the wrong choice. But in three starts...and three monumental wins...Jones went from a reserve quarterback who was supposed to never see the field at Ohio State to a Buckeye legend."
Even though some do see it as a bad idea, others think it could be a wise way to gain more experience before hitting it big.
Also, according to ESPN, the whole situation reminds the Ohio people of another famous athlete that represents them:
"The Cleveland Browns will stand by Johnny Manziel as he continues his treatment in rehab, owner Jimmy Haslam said...'I think it's way too early to give up on Johnny...We certainly haven't given up on him. I applaud him for raising his hand and saying 'I need help,' Haslam said. 'We're going to do everything we can to support him. Our primary interest is making sure that he gets well, if you will. Fixes himself.'
