Adding to the canon of female rock memoirbilia, now, is none other than Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. While no specific details have been revealed, the book is set to come out Sept. 8.
As Billboard notes, Penguin Random House announced Tuesday that the singer was "working on an 'an incredibly frank' memoir." The book is currently untitled.
While the book comes highly anticipated, it's not the newest addition to a female genre of musicians currently divulging their past. Her books comes juxtaposed with Kim Gordon's Girl in a Band and follows a similar route as Patti Smith's Just Kids, or Linda Ronstadt and beyond.
Hynde said of the news in Vulture: "I'm approaching writing this memoir much the same way as I would an album."
She continues: "I hope it makes you want to dance, have fun, dig out some old records and maybe even root through your closet and dust off your guitar."
Hynde begins her history in 1950's Akron, Ohio, where she grew up. It runs through the seminal Kent State shootings in 1970, where the musician attended before moving to London to steep herself into the budding punk scene.
Since 1979, thus, Hynde has released nine studio albums with the Pretenders along with a solo album, Stockholm, which came out last year.
So while Gordon had to recall her memoir to edit out a line about Lana Del Rey "offing herself," Hynde's latest should also come as a frank installment of the industry through the eyes of a true artist.
