‘The Americans’ Keri Russell Cast as Matthew McConaughey Wife; Boyfriend Matthew Rhys Gets ‘Bastard Executioner’ Pilot Role

FX' hit cold war drama, The Americans, is getting even more acclaim in Season 3, and the TV show's leads, Keri Russel and Matthew Rhys are finally starting to get some opportunities in Hollywood based on their riveting performances. According to the latest gossip news updates, Felicity has been cast as Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey's presumable racist first wife in his new movie set in the Civil War south, The Free State of Jonas. While it may still be just Keri primarily monkeying around on movie sets, her boyfriend is also getting a little work thanks to his exposure in the series. Rhys will reportedly be making an appearance in the pilot for Sons of Anarchy creator, Kurt Sutter's new FX series, Bastard Execution -- staring Australian new comer, Lee Jones.

The more the critics seem to rave over FX' The Americans the more opportunities to star in additional films and television series seem to wind up on Hollywood hot couple , Keri Russell and Matthew Rhy's doorstep.

Coming hot off the trail of her role in the CGI heavy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Russell has been cast alongside Matthew McConaughey in a historical drama about an oasis of freedom in the middle of the Civil War south.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Keri is set to play some sort of estranged wife to the Dallas Buyers Club star in The Free State of Jonas:

"McConaughey is portraying Newton Knight, a soldier for the Confederacy during the Civil War who became disillusioned with the South's cause, fled the battlefield, rallied supporters and declared a safe haven in Jones County, an area of southeastern Mississippi in opposition to the Confederacy.

"Russell will play will Knight's first wife, who leaves him."

Russell's Welsh beau also finds himself cast in a period piece, albeit one set six hundred years before Keri's.

The entertainment experts at Deadline, report that Rhys will have a guest role in the medival action drama from Kurt Sutter, set around the turn of the 14th century:

"The Bastard Executioner tells the story of a warrior knight (Lee Jones) in King Edward I's charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword.

"But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all."

So, imagine Sons of Anarchy but instead of motorcycles...they all ride big badass horses.
