Even though she seems like the most wholesome of America's sweethearts to emerge in popular culture in decades, Taylor Swift clearly isn't everyone's cup of meat. According to the latest gossip news updates, former Hannah Montana impersonator, Miley Cyrus, is throwing as much shade as she can muster at the '1989' singer following her SNL 40 Anniversary snub last weekend. Word has it that Jimmy Fallon's choosing Swift to duet with the Beatle's Paul McCartney, had Miley hoping someone would shake her right off the stage. Some folks are also incensed at the news that Harry Styles ex-girlfriend would consider performing in Israel. Apparently, pro-Palestinian groups want Swift to join in the boycott of the Jewish state like American artists did to South Africa during the time of apartheid.
Having grown up their entire lives watching the skits and live acts of Saturday Night Live once a week on NBC, both Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus would have been fools not to jump at the chance to perform at the recent 40 Anniversary show, but it turns out not everyone was going to be given the same opportunity on the big night.
A source privy to the behind-the-scenes shenanigans claims in the March 3 In Touch Weekly, that when Jimmy called Taylor Swift to join Paul McCartney on stage over Miley, the claws truly came out:
"Miley was crushed...Paul McCartney performed and Miley was dying to sing with him.
"Miley knew Taylor was stealing her thunder.
"Miley started bashing Taylor, saying her guitar wasn't plugged in and telling those around her, 'Those aren't real chords! She's not even playing!'"
Miley Cyrus isn't the only one supposedly miffed at Taylor Swift's choice of when and where to sing for whom.
After the "Shake It Off" songstress made an MTV Israel commercial wherein she speaks a little bit of Hebrew, pro-Palestinian groups became very concerned that it signaled an intention to possibly perform in the country at a future date.
Ramah Kudaimi of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation told The Daily Beast that he believes it is on artists like Taylor Swift and others to shed light on the situation in Israel by refusing to perform there until they make strides to improve their human rights record:
"Just as during the struggle against apartheid in South Africa artists were expected to not cross the picket line and perform in Sun City, artists today should heed the Palestinian boycott call and not help Israel whitewash its denial of Palestinian rights.
"Taylor Swift can stand on the right side of history by refusing to perform in Israel, which will send a very clear message that there cannot be business as usual with an apartheid state that commits war crimes such as the killing of more than 500 Palestinian children in Gaza this past summer."
Word has it that both the Israelis and the Palestinians are hoping the Miley will boycott the region -- but for an entirely different set of reasons.
