Timothy West, a British actor of both theater and screen, has passed away at the age of 90.
His children, Juliet, Samuel, and Joseph West, expressed in a statement, "After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old."
"Tim was with his friends and family at the end. He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. All of us will miss him terribly."
They also extended their gratefulness to hospital staff, saying, "We would like to thank the incredible NHS staff at St George's hospital, Tooting, and at Avery Wandsworth for their loving care during his last days."
Shortly after the news of his death was made public, the late actor will be seen in an episode of "Doctors" later today, as per The Mirror's report.
West was born on October 20, 1934 in Bradford in West Yorkshire, England.
His illustrious career spanned both stage and screen, with stints at the Royal Shakespeare Company during the 1960s, per Variety.
Throughout his lifetime, he was known for his commanding performances in iconic roles such as "Macbeth," "Uncle Vanya," and "King Lear."
In 1975, he made his debut on the big screen through the TV series "Edward the Seventh," where he brought to life the character of the titular king from his youth until his passing.
Following this success, he went on to charm audiences from 1983 to 1990 as the patriarch Bradley Hardacre in the comedic drama "Brass."
Among the movies that showcased West's talent were Richard Attenborough's "Cry Freedom" (1987), Luc Besson's "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc" (1999), and Richard Eyre's "Iris" (2001).
In the 2000s, West expanded his presence on television by taking on various roles. He graced the screens as Geoffrey Adams in the BBC One comedy series "Not Going Out" between 2007 and 2009. Additionally, he became part of the cast of the popular ITV soap opera "Coronation Street" in 2013, portraying the character Eric Babbage, who becomes entangled in a romantic storyline with Sue Johnston's Gloria Price.
