"Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" is scheduled to debut on Broadway in 2025 following its successful run in Chicago.
Exact dates and venue information are still to be confirmed.
The story is inspired by John Berendt's novel and centers on Jim Williams, a well-known antiques dealer. He faces allegations of a serious crime that affects the entire community, leading to a high-profile trial that draws in various townspeople.
The upcoming show features a script by Taylor Mac and a musical score by Jason Robert Brown.
A new musical adaptation of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" debuted at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago just this year, featuring the original team of creative minds at the helm.
Heading the lineup for the Chicago show was J. Harrison Ghee, who had previously clinched a Tony Award for his outstanding performance. Joining him were Tom Hewitt, a Tony Award nominee, in the role of Jim Williams, and Sierra Boggess, an Olivier Award nominee, portraying Emma Dawes.
In a statement, Berendt said, per Deadline, "When I took my seat at the Goodman theatre in Chicago last July to watch, for the first time, a full production of the Midnight musical, I had pen and notebook in hand, poised to jot down comments in the dark."
"After 20 minutes I realized I hadn't written a word. I'd been captivated by Jason Robert Brown's imaginative score, Taylor Mac's ingenious rendering of the (admittedly) complicated 388-page book, Tanya Birl-Torres's supple choreography and Rob Ashford's resourceful and energetic shaping of it all in Christopher Oram's enchanting and right-on-target sets. So, I just sat back and enjoyed the show."
