WWE Champ CM Punk UFC Debut Approaches: King Mo and Trainer Ben Askren Show Support

CM Punk has a rich and fascinating history in the WWE. For a long time, he was considered to be the promotion's top performer. However, as most of you know, Punk's relationship with the WWE ended in a very messy manner. In recent news, Ben Askren, who once criticized the idea of Punk in the UFC, has officially changed his stance on the situation. This isn't the only person to express their faith in Punk in recent weeks.

Before his time with the WWE, Punk gained his popularity by wrestling in the independent circuit. He primarily performed as a member on the Ring of Honor roster, and he was actually the first head trainer in the ROH wrestling school.

Once he did make it into the WWE, Punk established himself as a tyrannical force to be reckoned with. Impressively, he became the "longest reigning WWE Champion of the Modern Era" by holding the title for 434 consecutive days.

Then, as is Punk's style, he made the bold statement that he would be switching to the growing sport of MMA. According to MMA Fighting, CM's dedication and effort in training has changed the point of view for some:

"Ben Askren criticized the UFC when the promotion signed CM Punk. He has a different view of the former WWE star now. Askren [said] that he was impressed by CM Punk's attitude in training. Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, began training at Roufusport in Milwaukee with the likes of Askren and UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in January. [Also,] CM Punk, who...has experience in jiu-jitsu and kempo, came to Askren right away when he arrived at Roufusport in an attempt to squash a potential beef."

For others, they never doubted Punk in the first place. According to Christian Post, up-and-comer King Mo thinks Punk has what it takes to be successful:

"King Mo says he believes former World Wrestling Entertainment star CM Punk "will be successful" in his UFC career. Muhammed Lawal, aka 'King Mo,' said Punk has an advantage due to having a Jiu Jitsu background...'I just watched him train, and he moves like a Jiu Jitsu guy. Everything about him screams Jiu Jitsu...the fact that he's passionate about it, willing to learn, and he's a student, makes me think that he's going to be good.'"
