There was no winner of this week’s Mega Millions lottery drawing meaning that this weekend’s new game has risen even closer to the $100 million mark. Check the report below for an update before you buy your tickets as well as an update on the big Powerball jackpot winner.
There was no Mega Millions winner this past Tuesday night. That means that this weekend’s Mega Millions lottery drawing has reached a whopping $74 million with an estimated cash value of $46 mill.
There were three lucky winners for this week’s half a billion dollar Powerball lottery drawing in Texas, Puerto Rico and North Carolina.
The winner from North Carolina, Marie Holmes, a 26-year-old mother four, was the first winner to come forward. Holmes has the option to chose between either $188 million over 30 years or the $127 million lump sum, pre taxes.
Holmes spoke with NBC News Affiliate WECT in North Carolina, telling her story:
"I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw the ticket and checked it."
The Mega Millions website tells players what their options are if they win:
"Annuity option: The Mega Millions annuity is paid out as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments. Each payment is 5% bigger than the previous one. We used to pay the jackpot in equal installments, but players expressed concern that the cost of living would be increasing while their payments were not. We changed to payments that increase each year to help protect winners’ lifestyle and purchasing power.
"Cash option: A one-time, lump-sum payment that is equal to all the cash in the Mega Millions jackpot prize pool."
