Not only is Patrick Dempsey marriage to Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey on the rocks in Season 11 of Shonda Rimes epic medical drama Grey's Anatomy, his real-life wife, Jillian Fink, also filed for divorce at the end of January. According to the latest gossip news updates, while McDreamy's former cast mate and current State of Affairs lead, Katherine Heigl, at first claimed to feel sorry for his media troubles, she couldn't help but brag about how strong her relationship with husband Josh Kelly was and always would be when the subject was broached in a recent interview.
It must have been pretty difficult for Patrick Dempsey to show up the set of Grey's Anatomy last year to film scenes, wherein his on-screen marriage seemed to be collapsing in on him, only to go home to watch with his real-life marriage to Jillian Fink fall apart right in front of his eye, but a friends of the family told People that Jill and Patty had been working towards a divorce long before the Season 11 plot lines were ever drawn up:
"[This split] was a long time coming...They have had disagreements for a long time.
"They are both difficult in their own ways.
"They were never going to make it work, but they tried."
When Katherine Heigl was asked about Dempsey's divorce news, the State of Affairs star at first seemed sympathetic before callously comparing it to her picture perfect marriage (via Extra):
"I was really sad to hear that. I knew them both and they are really great people.
"I was so incredibly drawn to, attracted to [my husband] from the get-go, from the moment I met him.
"He's literally one of my favorite people in the world to hang out with.
"I can never see myself falling out of love with him."
You know if only Katherine had brought that kind of dedication to getting along with the rest of her ABC co-workers, Shonda Rimes wouldn't have had to give her cancer.
