NSYNC cosmonaut Lance Bass is super excited about being involved in the first gay celebrity wedding ever aired on national television, but the "Bye, Bye, Bye" singer recently recalled that the whole thing almost never even happened. According to the latest gossip news updates, the first time Bass tried to ask Micheal Turnchin to marry him, the famous boy band member was so mobbed by fans that he had to completely abandon the proposal effort.
Lance Bass is living proof that you can plan every last little detail before trying to pop the question to your significant other, but there is always room for something or someone to unexpectedly come along and muck the whole thing up.
They maybe happily married now, but Bass told Perez Hilton that at time it felt like the forces of the universe were conspiring to thwart his first engagement attempt:
"It was in our favorite city of New Orleans. It was just that perfect timing and I just knew I wanted to propose.
"I got down on one knee, and then some people wanted to take pictures of us and totally ruined the whole moment."
After Bass left the Big Easy for the open plains of Africa , however, he found some much better luck and things went off without a hitch.
Now the wedding has been filmed as it being readied to be broadcast later this year, Bass is happy to tell In Touch Weekly all about the royal theme of his perfect ceremony:
"It's our dream wedding.
"My only note to the guests was, I want you to pretend like you are going to a royal wedding at the Met Ball.
"I don't know it is because my name is Lance and I was just obsessed with Sir Lancelot and the medieval times, but I like to have a royal feel."
Despite the fact the whole affair sounds kind of over-the-top, Lance feels pretty confident that it is something he will be proud of the rest of his life:
"When we show our grandchildren this, I want them to be able to look at it like, 'Wow -- that stood the test of time!'"
So much for being that laid back grandpa that gives the kids candy and dollars...Bass wants the children to clap for him.
