Mozart's Violin and Viola Finally Coming to America

If the specialists from Salzburg's Mozarteum Foundation are correct, next week, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's own, personal string instruments will be heard for the first time ever in the United States.

Both Mozart's violin and viola will be showcased at the opening concert of the Boston Early Music Festival on June 10 at 8 p.m. in the New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough Street). Amandine Beyer (Mozart's violin) of France and Milos Valent (Mozart's viola) of Slovakia will perform works by Wolfie, accompanied by clarinetist Erich Hoeprich and Kristian Bezuidenhout at the pianoforte.

The instruments will also be on display at the festival's exhibition, through June 12.

The following day, alas, only the composer's violin will be travelling to New York--in the careful hands of Matthias Schulz and Johannes Honsig-Erlenburg, president of the Mozarteum Foundation.

Once unpacked, Wolfie's violin will be played by David Fulmer, in an event hosted by the Austrian Cultural Forum (11 East 52nd Street) on Friday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. Fulmer, an accomplished violinist, prize-winning composer and member of the Argento New Music Project, will play one of Mozart's sonatas, as well as brand new piece of his own.

"These authentic Mozart instruments can only be experienced on very seldom occasions, even in Salzburg," says Schulz, artistic and managing director at the Mozarteum Foundation.

Giddy as all get out, Classicalite can only respond with the following clip(s) of Tom Hulce:
