WWE Champ and Ring of Honor Star Mexican Wrestler Alberto El Patron Gets Pay Per View Event

Alberto Del Rio is best known for his tenure with the extremely popular WWE. He recently debuted with Ring of Honor, and announced his intended pursuit of the ROH World Title. After a lot of hype and anticipation, "El Patron" has landed his first pay-per-view spot with the new company. Del Rio is not the first wrestler to switch from the WWE to ROH over the last year. In a recent interview, Evan Bourne spoke about his switch and being let go from the WWE.

José Alberto Rodríguez is better known by his ring names Alberto Del Rio or Alberto Del Patron. He was born in the Mexican city of San Luis Potosi. He comes from a long line of wrestlers and his father is a luchador known as Dos Caras.

In his early career, Jose wrestled all over Mexico with several different promotions.

At one point, Alberto even tried his luck in mixed marital arts. Finally, he hit it big in June of 2010, when he signed a three-year contract with the WWE.

During that time, he won multiple titles, including four WWE World Heavyweight Championships, two WWE Championships and two World Heavyweight Championships.

Currently, he is no longer with the WWE, but according to Cage Side Seats, he hasn't given up the chase for supremacy as a member of ROH:

"The seeds were planted when Alberto El Patrón made his first ROH TV appearance. The hottest free agent in pro wrestling [greeted] the Ring of Honor faithful with a...strong babyface promo, declaring his intention to shoot for the ROH World title. Now, after some highly anticipated warm-up matches for the former Alberto Del Rio...the former WWE champ will make his pay-per-view (PPV) debut for ROH by challenging Lethal for the Television Championship he's held for nearly a year."

Ring of Honor is nowhere near the scale of the WWE. Yet, that hasn't stopped them from recruiting some decent wrestlers.

According to Wrestle Zone, Evan Bourne recently talked about being fired and finding a new home:

"[He said, the] WWE was pretty wonderful to me because I was able to rehab my foot 100 percent before I was released. They were able to make it so during the time I couldn't have worked at all they would take care of me. They were providing a great support system. Then after I got fired I was healthy and ready to rock. Sure, I would have loved to stay, but change is always a good thing."
