Léonin (b. 1150?) was the first known composer; Pérotin (b. 1200?) was the second known composer.
Having known so much, we present Classicalite's Cartoon Trivia with Leo & Peri.
Leo: "Peri, I've always wondered. And since it's Memorial Day over in the States, I'm just going to ask this. Who actually wrote the tune to 'Taps?'"
Peri: "I'm glad you asked, Leo. The tune you mention is actually a variation of an earlier bugle call known as the 'Scott Tattoo.' 'Taps' was arranged in its present form by the Union Army Brigadier General Daniel Butterfield, to replace a previous French bugle call used to signal lights out. Butterfield's bugler, Oliver Wilcox Norton, was the first to sound the new call. 'La sonnerie aux morts' is our French Armed Forces equivalent."
Do you know the answer, Classicalites? If so, let us know in the comments. As always, we'll post the right response soon.
