Anna Chlumsky, who is currently acting alongside James Earl Jones in You Can’t Take It With You, and Douglas Sills will join opera star Renee Fleming in her Broadway debut in Living on Love. Other cast members announced included Broadway stars Blake Hammond and Scott Robertson.
All of the actors are reprising their roles, which received praise after a summer debut at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2014. It is not known if Justin Long, who also starred in the Williamstown performance, will reprise his role as Robert Samson in the Broadway production.
Chlumsky who used to be known for her staring role in My Girl, has received Emmy nominations in both 2013 and 2014 for her performance in the HBO series Veep. Her performance in Living on Love will mean the star will be performing in two shows within a Broadway season.
Directed by Kathleen Marshall, the Joe DiPietro comedy is based on the play Peccadillo by Garson Kanin. Th show stars Fleming as opera singer Raquel De Angelis, whose conductor-husband starts to fall for a woman hired to ghostwrite his long-delayed autobiography. She retaliates by hiring her own ghostwriter but also gets romantically attached.
Fleming will only sing a little in the play, some improvised a cappella. “I’ve spent my life singing tragic characters, so to be able to make people laugh is an extraordinary joy,” said Fleming. The famed singer is currently staring in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of The Merry Widow.
Living on Love will begin performances at the Longacre Theatre on April 1. Opening night is set for April 20.
