Forthcoming music festival, Primavera Sound, has announced its lineup for its May 28–30 run in Barcelona. Big names like Interpol and Belle & Sebastian are set to attend but, also, eclectic sounds likes Spanish singer Rocío Márquez; experimental electronica from the pioneering German musician Hans-Joachim Roedelius; and Afrobeats from the Nigerian drummer and composer Tony Allen.
As far as European festivals go, one of the top tickets features Primavera sound as its premiere event. With the temperate climate, PS is much more accommodating than, say, British festivals like Glastonbury. The Parisian festival, Rock en Seine, too, pales in comparison.
According to The New York Times, Patti Smith will also attend and perform her landmark 1975 album Horses in its entirety as well as acoustic and spoken word pieces.
And if that wasn't enough, the festival will feature a series of female bands associated with the riot grrrl movement of the '90s. Some of acts that fit under this umbrella include Kathleen Hanna and her new band, the Julie Ruin; Babes in Toyland; Mary Timony with Ex Hex; and the recently revived Sleater-Kinney.
Ticket prices for the three-day gala increase as the festival approaches. Through Feb. 3, tickets are 175 euros, or about $202, each; from Feb. 4 to May 4, they will sell for 185 euros; and from May 5 to the start of the festival, they will be available for 195 euros.
