Broadway by the Year, a series focusing on music from the Broadway songbook from 1916 to the present day, and a cabaret revue by Broadway superstar Lea Salonga are all on the roster for this upcoming year at Town Hall. Salonga provided the voice of Disney princesses Muland and Jasmine.
This is Broadway by the Year’s 15th season, where producer, creator, writer and host Scott Siegel will present the best-loved songs and hidden treasures from the Broadway songbook from 1916 to the present over a series of four performances.
The first show focuses on stage songs first sung from 1916-40, the lead-up to Broadway's Golden Age, with Depression-era classics performed by contemporary superstars, including Tony Award winners Tonya Pinkins and Karen Ziemba, Tony nominees Emily Skinner and Stephen Bogardus, Grammy winner John Easterlin, cabaret legend Steve Ross and many more.
Created by Siegel, the show takes audience members on a musical tour of Broadway while offering a verbal account of its history. Each show will cover a quarter of a century of Broadway tunes from shows including A Chorus Line, Annie Get Your Gun, Babes in Arms, Brigadoon, Cabaret, Candide, Dreamgirls, Follies, Funny Girl, Girl Crazy, Gypsy, Guys & Dolls, Into the Woods, La Cage Aux Folles, Lady Be Good, Kiss Me Kate and more
Also performing at Town Hall is Tony- and Olivier-Award-winning star and recording artist Lea Salonga. Salonga has had turns in Broadway shows such as Aladdin, Les Miserables and Miss Saigon, as well as being the voice of Disney's classic princesses Mulan and Jasmine in the films.
In her new show, audiences will enjoy an array of songs and genres from classic tunes to current hits to Broadway favorites.
Broadway by the Year will start Feb. 23 while Lea Salonga’s concert will be March 14. To purchase tickets for these event, click here.
