‘Juno’ Rainn Wilson New Fox TV Show ‘Backstrom’ Ready for Backlash [INTERVIEW NEWS]

After a decade playing the some-what lovable Dwight Schrute in the American version of The Office, Rainn Wilson, initially balked at the idea of returning to television, but the iconic actor recently explained that the irascible role in the new Fox TV show, Backstrom, was too good to pass up. According to the latest gossip news updates, Wilson plays a brilliant Portland detective, whose ugly personality is reportedly guaranteed to offend every audience demographic at one point or another. In fact in a recent interview, the Juno star openly mused that he genuinely hoped that the network had steeled itself for the inevitable backlash to come.

If you are planning to tune in to Rainn Wilson's new TV show on Fox because you want to catch a glimpse of your favorite zany Office character live again on the small screen, you might want to skip the first episode of Backstrom.

While Rainn's old character may have been known for being a little annoying at times, Wilson told USA Today his new role took the idea of getting under your skin to a whole new level:

"He has no filter and he hates everyone.

"Stuff he says is going to come out as racist, but he sees flaws in everyone.

"He hates no one more than he hates himself."

Not only is Rainn expected to offend his co-stars on Backstrom, he fully expects to upset a good portion of the audience as well.

In a recent interview with Mashable, Wilson explained he was pretty sure Fox was going to be getting some angry letters after tonight's premiere whether they were ready for them or not:

"I'm sure we'll get a lot of complaints.

"I hope Fox is ready to have people be really angry."

Despite his character's surly personality Wilson told E! News that we was thinking about taking a break from television until he realized what an opportunity to really do something different that this was:

"I was hooked. It was such an interesting, complex, difficult, funny, dark and weird character.

"I was like, characters like this, they just don't come around very often.

"I couldn't let it go."

Let's hope this cross between Colombo and Archie Bunker is every bit the success for Rainn Wilson that Monk was for Tony Shalhoub.
