It's about damn time!
Finally, Make Music New York is pairing up with River to River and Mantra Percussion to present thee masterpiece of en masse sound--Cornelius Cardew's The Great Learning (1970).
Written to be performed by a combination of both trained and amateur musicians, The Great Learning is a work in seven parts or "paragraphs," based on Ezra Pound's translations of Confucius.
Due to its unconventional instrumentation and the sheer, well, epicness of its scale, Cardew's crowning achievement from his aleatoric period has never been performed in its entirety in New York City.
Until now, of course.
To wit, MMNY is looking for instrumentalists, vocalists and dancers to join the seven-hour performance that will snake through seven plazas in Lower Manhattan.
