Joni Mitchell Has a Fashion Moment with Yves Saint Laurent, Talks 'Love Has Many Faces' and More

For Joni Mitchell, it has always been about creating music than releasing it. Her forthcoming release Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, a Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced, is not the only thing waiting to hit markets. She is also the new face of Saint Laurent.

A fashion moment, indeed. Mitchell is now in her 70s and showing that her career as a high-topping artist is still echoing through the century. But as she notes in an interview with V magazine, she does not want be called a folksinger — or worse, a "singer-songwriter."

Dubbed the female, uh, Bob Dylan by some and by others as a gentle spirit, the new, four-disc box set of Love Has Many Faces is an anthology encompassing the 40 years of her career.

But as for her fashion sense, Yves Saint Laurent has jumped on the bandwagon and announced that Joni will be the face of the fashion house's Music Project.

Mitchell, 71, was photographed for the campaing by SL Creative Director Hedi Slimane, who also shot her for V.

And as per USA Today, the musician also has an aim for the new work:

"I'm hoping that people will see that the music — whether it's early or late — has a continuity in it. It's really not so shockingly different over time. Also, I've got 24-year-old Joni going up against 65-year-old Joni. There will be someone out there I suppose who makes an unfavorable contrast between the younger voice and the older voice, but to me both of those singers are delivering their lines correctly."

So until Thursday, Jan. 22, Classicalites, check her out below with some jazz heavyweights:
