Léonin (b. 1150?) was the first known composer; Pérotin (b. 1200?) was the second known composer.
Having known so much, we present Classicalite's Cartoon Trivia with Leo & Peri.
Leo: "Real quick, Peri, who was that poet you used to work with all the time? I know that others didn't care too much for him (especially those Mendicants), but I always did like his lyrics. Honestly, I'm asking for a friend..."
Peri: "Real quick, my dear Peri, that poet's name was Philip The Chancellor. More than a mere lyricist, beginning in 1217, he was Chancellor of our Notre Dame de Paris. A composer, himself, he must've patched things up with the Mendicants, because my sources tell me that before he died in 1236, he joined the Franciscan order.
Do you know the answer, Classicalites? If so, let us know in the comments. As always, we'll post the right response soon.
