The critically acclaimed and notorious L.A. rocker, Kim Fowley, has died. Despite having undergone cancer treatments, no cause of death has been announced. He was a mighty 75 years old.
Perhaps the "original viral rock star," Fowley may best be remembered for his contributions to the band the Runaways. Having practically created the band, he had a major influence on their music and direction as an all-female rock group.
Joan Jett and Fowley met when she was 15 years old, when he also introduced Jett to teenage drummer Sandy West and frontwoman Cherie Currie. Lead guitarist Lita Ford and bassist Jackie Fox soon followed suit, too.
Fowley also produced their 1976 debut Runaways and also helped co-wrote the band's hit single "Cherry Bomb," which was written with Jett.
Later on, Fowley began working with the Modern Lovers, Blue Cheer and Helen Reddy and even helped co-write Kiss's hit Destroyer.
Many have come out and paid their respect to the late-musician.
Lita Ford wrote on her Facebook: "My first manager, my first start in the music industry, my first band put together by Kim. Sometimes I wonder if there would ever have been a Lita Ford without Kim Fowley."
Jett wrote on her Twitter: "Kim was a friend, he taught me so much. I am very sad."
Friends from the E Street Band like Steven Van Zandt also spoke out about their deceased friend.
Thus, another great one is lost and we at C-Lite pay respect to a most unique and shining talent.
