Katey Sagal has been a fixture in American living rooms for nearly 30-years-now. The actress found fame as Peg Bundy on Fox’s Married with Children. Over the years, Sagal found steady work, notably on ABC’s 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, and the cult cartoon Futurama. Sagal also had bit parts on shows like Lost, That 70’s Show, and various others. However, despite all of her past success, it his role as the mad matric Gemma Teller on FX’s Sons of Anarchy that Sagal will forever be known for.
Recently, Katey Sagal opened up to Vulture about landing the role of lifetime after landing her previous role of a lifetime:
“I never thought that would happen again. I was pretty blessed to have it happen once, and then to have it happen again in such a different way was amazing. My husband [SOA creator Kurt Sutter] and the FX network both took a shot on me. They went for it. I had faith that I could do such a departure from what I was known for, but I needed other people to be onboard, too. I feel very grateful they believed in me. It opened up a whole new world for me. It gave me so much more opportunity.”
Sagal went on to detail what it is she will miss about the role now that the series has wrapped:
“It was so fun to play a badass. Gemma put people in her place. She called it like it is. It’s hard to find women who are written that way. So I will definitely miss that. She was one of a kind.”
