The Sony hack revealed emails from executives discussing the idea of Idris Elba (Luther, Thor, Pacific Rim) playing James Bond in the new 007 film. Conservative talk radio host, Rush Limbaugh came out against the idea, for the simple reason that Idris Elba is black. Now the Avengers Age of Ultron actor has opened up about the rumor, tweeting that he is not handsome enough for the role. However, he is cool enough to hang with the Fonz, Henry Winkler.
Recently, Rush Limbaugh spoke about the rumor that Idris Elba could play James Bond, telling his fans (via TV Guide):
"James Bond was invented, created by Ian Fleming, a former spy, MI6, and James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish, period. That is who James Bond is. But now Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is, and I know it's racist to probably even point this out."
Idris Elba has now opened up about the casting rumor via twitter, writing:
“Isn't 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I've got a shot! Happy New year people.”
