Jermain Taylor is highly decorated as an American boxer and has pulled off some impressive accomplishments while in the ring. However, his actions outside of the ring have been scandalous and shocking. Earlier in the year, Taylor was arrested for allegedly shooting his cousin, qualifying as an aggrevated assault felony. Now, his violence has made headlines once again. Apparently, the cops were called after the champ threw a brick at a woman near his home.
Taylor got his start in boxing at the age of 13, and from then on, his career seemed to have no limits. He has multiple Golden Glove titles, he has competed on the Olympic Boxing team and he is currently the IBF Middleweight champion.
Even though he dropped out of the tournament, he fought in Showtime's Super Six World Classic in attempt to find out which middleweight boxer truly was dominant.
Early on, it appeared that Taylor would be one of the greats. Now, however, it seems that Taylor only makes headlines when the cops are called.
According to ESPN, Taylor was arrested earlier in the year for attempted murder:
"Former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor was freed on $25,000 bond Wednesday after police detained the former middleweight champion in the shooting of his cousin at his suburban Little Rock, Arkansas, home...He was taken into custody, booked into the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility and charged with the two felonies -- first-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault..."
One would think after facing such intense charges, they would back off on the violence. Well, Jermain did not get the memo.
According to TMZ Sports, the cops were recently called after Taylor assaulted a woman with a brick:
"...The IBF Middleweight champ has been accused of throwing a BRICK at a woman near his home in Arkansas...According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Dept., a 30-year-old woman claims Taylor launched a brick through her car window ... and she was bleeding. Cops say Taylor ADMITTED to launching the brick, but claims he only did it because the woman was driving right at him...neither Taylor nor the woman were arrested ... even though...the woman had cuts to her elbow and damage to her vehicle."
What do you think of the situation? Is the public jaded by fame? Is this why we don't give up on our favorite athletes even if they are repeat offenders? How do celebrity athletes get away with so much and still keep a following? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
