Despite changing minds about what he is artistically capable of with his Foxcatcher performance, Channing Tatum has been passed over by both the Golden Globes and the SAG awards. The news comes as quite a shock and certainly doesn't bode well for the Magic Mike XXL stripper's Oscar chances, but Jenna Dewan's husband claims that he's about being a part of great movies, not award shows. Speaking of great movies, word has it that Channing and his 22 Jump Street wife, Jonah Hill, may soon be starring alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in a Men in Black 4 franchise crossover film. According to the latest gossip news updates, the recent Sony email hacks revealed that the studio was virtually ready to go ahead and green light the next installment in both the Jump Street and MiB series.
From the moment audience and critics alike first caught a glimpse of Channing Tatum's performance in Foxcatcher, mummers that he was a shoo-in for at least a few nominations come awards season immediately started to permeate the media, but it seems that may have all just been wishful thinking.
The latest Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations have been posted -- with Channing's name is surprisingly absent from both -- but Tatum told La Times earlier a few weeks ago that he honestly isn't interested in Hollywood accolades:
"Like, I've heard, 'This is a step up for you.'
"And I go, 'That's for you guys to have that opinion.'
"I just want to be part of good movies...I know that's probably boring to hear."
Well, Channing certainly has had an undeniable string of "good" movies over the last four years, and it looks like he may soon have his next buddy cop comedy with Jonah Hill all lined up.
According to Fashion and Style, the latest Sony emails leaked earlier this week seem to point to an unbelievable sequel in the Jump Street series that will bring the Men in Black universe into the mix:
"A private email between Jonah Hill and Sony chairwoman Amy Pascal reveals that Hill wants 23 Jump Street to crossover with Men in Black 4."
While it would make fans of both franchises happiest to see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones having an integral part of the Jump Street/ MiB crossover, Sony doesn't need anyone's permission to do whatever they like as the company already owns all the rights needed to make the movie.
Well...ff nothing else, they should make Ice Cube and the Fresh Prince battle rap to save the galaxy.
