LA King's Slava Voynov is facing charges of domestic abuse from earlier in the year, when he was accused of hitting his wife. Voynov was logically suspended from play, and now the Kings face huge fines for violating the terms of the suspension.
Voynov is accused of causing significant bodily injury to his spouse. Marta Voynov, his wife, was reportedly treated in a hospital after receiving injuries to her eyebrow, cheek and neck.
In turn, the NHL slapped Voynov with a suspension that clearly prohibited him from any team related activities. The Kings apparently didn't take the league seriously, because they allowed Slava to practice with them.
They are now facing a fine of $100,000, and Yahoo Sports has the league's official statement:
"Voynov skated with teammates today during a Club practice. Such activity is in direct contravention of the terms of the suspension levied Oct. 20, which permit Mr. Voynov to use club facilities and work with team personnel but prohibit his participation in any team-related functions or activities."
The champs may be stubborn when it comes to their star, however they seem to be taking their punishment like adults. TMZ Sports has the L.A. King's reaction:
"The L.A. Kings are admitting they messed up badly by letting their suspended star Slava Voynov practice with the team. The Kings reacted to the $100,000 fine the NHL laid on the team today, saying ... 'It is incumbent upon us to be more vigilant in managing this situation to ensure that Slava's allowable training activities always remain separate from the team.' Slava was suspended after his October arrest for allegedly beating up his wife. As we told you ... he pled not guilty yesterday, but participated in a team practice...a violation of his suspension."
What do you think about the situation? Is the league being too hard on Voynov and the Kings? Or, does the punishment fit the crime? Let us know in the comment section below.
