Tonight, Fox’s Gracepoint is all new with the last episode before the finale. The 10-part remake of the 8-part BBC series Broadchurch, has just reached its ninth episode. That means that the new show if finally free to branch away from Broadchurch. Until now, the show, which stars Broadchruch’s David Tennant (Doctor Who) in the same role, alongside Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), has stayed very true to the original series.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Gracepoint, reads:
“As Det. Carver's heart condition worsens, his supervisor gives him 24 hours to find the killer, while Beth seeks advice from Paul Coates, and Susan Wright surprises all with a revelation.”
Tonight’s episode is the ninth in the ten part series. The original BBC series, Broadchurch only ran for a total of eight episode. Gracepoint has stayed pretty close to the plot of Broadchurch, but tonight all bets are off.
At the begining of the season, Gracepoint showrunner Dan Futtermantold opened up about to reporters about how the show would very from Broadchurch(via Washington Post):
“The first order of business was don’t [mess] up what works [about Broadchurch], because it was fantastic. All of you probably saw Broadchurch. You are connoisseurs of good TV, and it was great TV. So we didn’t want to break what was working. But we also wanted to raise this show in a different country. We have 10 episodes as opposed to eight, and so we start to veer from the storyline. . . . [W]e introduced new characters, new potential suspects.”
Now that the show is breaking free of Broadchurch, what do you think will happen? How has the series stacked up to the remake? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
