P. J. Harvey's next endeavor may not be bound to music but to the spine of a book. The British singer-songwriter has announced her book of poetry and images created in collaboration with photo-filmmaker Seamus Murphy, The Hollow of the Hand, and will be available October 2015.
The 224-page collection chronicles the pair's travel around the world over the last three years, including excursions to places like Kosovo and Afghanistan. Previously, though, the duo convened on a different project: a series of 12 films to accompany Harvey's album Let England Shake.
Also, Harvey recently recorded a cover of Nick Cave's "Red Right Hand" for the BBC TV show Peaky Blinders, and was also awarded an honorary degree from Goldsmiths, University of London.
In a statement, the singer was quoted saying: "Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about. I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with."
She continued: "My friend Seamus Murphy and I agreed to grow a project together — I would collect words, he would collect pictures, following our instincts on where we should go."
For now, the forthcoming collaboration should come well received as per her most recent reading of "The Guest Room" at The New Yorker.
But until then, check out Murphy's short film below "The Last Living Rose" from Let England Shake, courtesy of the good people at Pitchfork.
